Behavior Correction - Dog Biting/Anxiety around doorways

Hey all,

My girlfriend has a cute mini Australian Shepherd who is very sweet and loving, but has issues with increased anxiety around doorways/when people enter and exit rooms. Especially when someone (even myself who he's plenty used to) is entering a room that she is in. He is very protective of her basically, and definitely shows the instincts of being a herding dog. We think this is also partly due to an issue she had in her past with her ex terrorizing him through doors by yelling/banging (he was a massive jerk) while she and Oscar (dog) were on the other side, more-or-less hiding from him being a psycho. Anyway, I've been bitten a few times (pretty hard) and he's also gotten my roommate a few times, so I'm searching for methods to correct his behavior/decrease his anxiety around doors before this becomes a major issue, or he bites someone else. I'm very careful and slow and steady when entering rooms that they are in now, and that helps most of the time to make him feel at ease, but it's by no means a cure for his anxiety. My roommate and others won't always be aware of who's on the other side of which door, so I need to figure out another way to curb his stress and anxiety. I'm wondering if anyone else has had similar issues and could recommend any advice! Thanks!
