So I am a first time cat owner, me and my girlfriend got our two sweet babies a year ago when we moved in together. One from a shelter and one from a friend giving hers away that needed a more active home life. They are a Calico and a Tabby/ bengal. We assimilated them in with each other and it took about 3 weeks but now they are best friends and inseparable.
My litter box is in a spare bedroom, and has a bed in it. Recently this room has suddenly REEKED of cat pee. I have bleached the bathroom cleaned the floors, bought air freshener, all this stuff and it never occurred to me to check the bed. I touched the comforter and it’s sticky, and well there’s our smell. The mattress and blankets are all SOAKED in cat urine. I got rid of the 600 dollar mattress and am washing all the bedding.
Here is my questions:
Are they marking the bed as some sort of a territory thing? They get along really well but play fight a lot but is that possible?
What if they continue to pee on the carpet where the bed was? Is there any way to deter them?
Could they maybe have a urinary problem or something? Or not like the litter box? ( Its a self scooping one with crystal litter inside, unscented, and they have used it without issue unless it gets more than 7 days without changing.) I change it 4 days before the recommended change time because I don’t want them to ever use a dirty box and the litter tracks into carpet etc.
Desperate for any advice / help guys, I LOVE.my babies but it’s very worrisome and I can’t put a new bed in there until I’m sure this issue has been resolved.
