TL;DR - How does one know when to break up with a vet, and is there a right way (etiquette?) to do it?
I am currently thinking of switching vets which has been difficult as there are only a few who specialize in ferrets. We recently lost one to renal failure , which was heartbreaking to my family members but due to their grief I believe they are putting a lot of the blame on the vet and do not want to take our other ferret to see him anymore. I have explained to them that it was 100% not the vet's fault, although I do agree with them that he could have spent more time explaining to us what was happening, explain to us the results of the ultrasound or the urine gravity test and let us know some signs of end-stage renal failure as our ferret had been exhibiting almost all those signs by the time he was discharged from the clinic and we went home thinking we still had plenty of time with him.
I am still feeling guilty about my other ferrets death and am still in the stage of being a hypochondriac about my other ferret. Now I'm feeling even more guilty about switching vets and clinics. I want to show my support to the vet but at the same time want what's best for my ferret.
