So my mom had an animal hoarding problem and my dad never said no to her (at one point she went to 2 different shelters getting 4 kittens the same day). When my mom passed my dad had a bunch of cats that he didn't want to care for while moving. I adopted 2 of the cats: one was a stray and wasnt neutered or microchipped but the other was from a humane shelter with microchip and all.
Now Ive been working on switching over stuff to my name, having the vet put my number on record, making sure their microchips/rabies tags are under my name (my dad hadn't kept up with their vaccinations). I had them insured and licenced both under my name. The only thing I am worried about is that sometimes shelters will have rules against rehomeing animals and I am worried about the shelter finding out about the one they adopted to my mom and trying to take him back. I assume the cat was adopted under my moms name, and she is deceased, and I am not even sure which shelter he was adopted from. Would it be considered rehoming if I was registered under the same address when she adopted him? Would it make sense to find the shelter and notify them that I have him now or is that asking for trouble?
He is definitely happier now, my parents had him living in the garage I have him living indoors, so I know they would agree to it but I am still worried
