So I have two cats. One is a short hair and doesn't noticeably shed. The other is either a long hair or medium hair cat and sheds SO MUCH. I've had her for a couple years and she's always shed a ton all the time. I've noticed people talk about cat "shedding seasons" but I have no idea what that means. My cat is always shedding. It really is starting to drive me a little crazy because I feel like it's just unmanageable. I brush her everyday and always end up with a handful of fur (like a ping pong or golf ball size amount when compressed). Honestly, I could keep brushing her for much longer after each brush session and probably get a whole bucket of fur. It doesn't seem like brushing her everyday has ever really made the amount she sheds less. She sheds all year. When I just grab at her fur and pinch a bit and pull just slightly a whole lot of fur comes out. Fur is always flying everywhere in every room.
Besides the problems this causes my cleaning routine, I'm really starting to wonder if this is a normal amount for a cat to shed? Would grooming help? Would cutting her hair help? I've also noticed ever since I got her that she sneezes more often than my other cat and has crusties around her eyes most of the time. I've also noticed when brushing her that there seems to be little bits of skin that come off with her fur, like dandruff maybe. Sometimes when I'm brushing her there's even a few skinny clumps of fur that seem to have been pulled out at the root. Could some sort of skin condition be causing her shedding to be worse? My friend has a long hair cat but when I pet him fur doesn't come flying off like it does with my cat. Does anyone have any advice for how to help my cat out and how to maybe decrease her shedding?
