Help! Senior dog with bladder/bowel issues and indoor cat. How do we accommodate them both?

My boyfriend and I (in an apartment now) are closing on a house in a week and a half. Our 14 year old Boston terrier can't hold his bowels for more than 3-4 hours. We also have an indoor cat that was declawed before I adopted him (I would never do that to a cat). We have discussed having a doggie door so that the Boston can go in and out as he pleases, but I'm worried that our cat will escape and disappear. He would be unable to defend himself, and he has never really been outside. If we lost our cat, I would be beside myself with grief. Then again, we don't want our boston to pee and poop all over our new house.

What should we do?
