I have a whippet and he turns 4 on the 30th. He has gotten ridiculously hard to please when it comes to food. So, currently he’s staying with my parents because he has crazy separation anxiety with me and I can’t have a dog literally screaming like he’s being murdered in my apartment building. My mom is losing her mind trying to feed him. When he was a puppy he was eating Purina ProPlan I think? He ate it okay. I switched him to Taste of the Wild and he has been eating that for the majority of his 4 years. At first it was okay and I’d just have to switch flavors every few months. It’s gotten to the point that my mom is having to feed him a different flavor every other day. She was going to switch him to science diet which I was a bit iffy about but it’s a tiny bit cheaper at our local pet store than the taste of the wild. I relented because I currently am not paying for his food, didn’t feel like I could explicitly tell her no.
He stopped eating taste of the wild halfway through a bag and so she slowly started with the science diet. Then after a week he got tired of science diet. So she tried the taste of the wild bag again. He ate it great and then the next day wouldn’t so she gave him more science diet and he ate that. She’s at the point she has to give him these two on alternating days. For a while he would do better with yogurt, chicken broth, cheese, or peanut butter mixed in. Now he’ll just lick whatever it is off if he doesn’t feel like eating that food.
What would be the cost difference of just getting an okay quality wet food for him as opposed to buying a different flavor 5lb bag of taste of the wild every two and a half weeks? If you don’t want to look up the cost its ab $14 every two-ish weeks. He’s a 30lb whippet, relatively active. How many cans/ounces would he need of wet food a day?
