I need some advice with my cats please!

I start a new full time job on Monday. I've been unemployed for about 3 months and I'm pretty sure my cats have become use to me being home.

I have a boy and a girl. My boy cat takes playing too far sometimes, and he ends up doing what I believe is trying to establish dominance. My girl cat doesn't like it at all. She will hiss, yelp and to the point of screeching. I quickly separate them before it gets to the screeching, but sometimes I'm too late and ah... it's an awful sound. It doesn't happen too often but when it does, I put my boy cat in bedroom for five minutes and let him out. They both seem fine after that.

Now my concern with starting my job is that this will happen while I'm working. They do sleep a majority of the day, but still I've become anxious.

I took them to the vet for a check up about 2 months ago, and expressed my concern for this and the vet told me to try and have a space for her to get to. A safe spot. The problem is I can't afford new climbing things right now and anywhere she can get to, so can he.

I was thinking of taking a storage bin and creating a hiding spot for her when it happens, where she will only be able to fit. Would this work or would it make things worse? What are some DIY things I can do to help?

Both my cats are spayed and neutered. They are both a year and half. I don't want to lock one in a room for 9 hours a day because that seems inhumane. Any advice is appreciated!
