Basically what the title says. We got a new puppy. The puppy will probably always be smaller and lighter than the cat, i dont know if that makes a difference. My cat has started to drink ONLY out of the dogs bowl. The cats food/water are nowhere near where the dog can even get to as he is blocked by a gate. (The cat, obviously, has free reign of the house.) Added to this, the cat will also sit in front of the dogs tent/kennel where his bed and toys are, so that he cannot get in. They are both males.
We've had the dog for a month now. The cat will play around and chase the dog, roll around, etc. I even caught the cat licking the dogs head while the dog was sleeping. The cat and the dog sleep in bed with us every night. The cat sleeps by my feet as always, no changes there. Really, the only change for the cat other than the actual dog was that we switched from regular litter to pellet litter. He doesnt seem to mind.
Any advice on WHY my cat will only drink out of the dogs water bowl? Should i get them both the exact same bowl? The cats bowl is stainless steel and the dogs is glass. Is this a dominance thing? I'm getting tired of him guarding the bowl and refusing to let the dog drink, but like, cats you know? What do you do? Other than pick him up and move him as he turns his 17lb body into cat soup. Thats another issue, for real. Picking this cat up is a chore, he makes it super hard by going boneless. And then he just moves right back to in front of the bowls or kennel.
Any advice is welcome!
