My neighbors dog is obese for his size and his owners aren’t doing anything about it.

I don’t know if this is the right sub for this, but I just feel so bad for this dog and I don’t know what to do!

We took care of him briefly when we found him as a stray about 7 or 8 years ago. Our neighbors adopted him and since he was adopted, he’s gained so much weight. He’s a mixed breed and is a medium sized dog. I just know he is severely overweight. I saw him for the first time in months while jogging and he actually tried running with me but just plopped in the middle of the road cause he couldn’t keep up.

My mom has spoken with the neighbors and has commented on the dog’s weight gain. She said the the owner just brushed it off and said her husband gives the dog table scraps all the time and that she’s asked him to stop but he won’t..?? It just seemed like they weren’t bothered or concerned about his weight. Not to mention, the owners aren’t at a healthy weight themselves, but I don’t think it’s right to do this to an animal that doesn’t have control like that.

Would this be considered abuse? I just wish I could kidnap the dog and put him on a diet for the sake of his health. Is there something I could do? I just feel like reporting abuse would be going too far.
