I have 2 cats both female. One is around 10 and the other is 11-12 I got the 10 year old one about a year ago from a shelter and she is just the type of cat that always wants to be loved, she never bites or scratches humans (unless she’s playing of course)
The same goes with the other cat (11-12 got here many years ago). She likes to be pet and loves to have her belly rubbed but startles very easily. Once again this cat does not bite or scratch humans unless she’s doing so playfully. Once I introduced each cat all heck broke loose instantly We separated them for awhile and introduced smells and all of that but once they met my 10 year old kitty was instantly frightened and hissed (I had never heard her hiss or growl before) and the 11-12 year old instantly attacked and chased her across my house.
This has been going on for a few months where 10 year old kitty is getting ambushed by my other cat When she walks downstairs it’s ambush time When she steps out of her litter box she gets ambushed (they have separate litter boxes and food bowls too)
And it’s only gotten worse You see 11-12 year old cat did something while I was away that left 10 year old kitty frightened. She’s now afraid to come downstairs and when she sees or hears the other cat she bolts and hides
I try and switch who I sleep with every night but a few nights ago there was a midnight ambush and now 10 year old kitty is now too scared to go in my room. She’s tried one time since then and she was practically shaking and wouldn’t calm down until I snuggled up to her on a couch upstairs
Once again both cats are just the sweetest things when they are by themselves but when they get near each other 10 year old kitty gets bullied pretty quickly and it’s gotten really bad and I’ve tried everything It’s gotten so bad she is afraid to use her litter box and does her business in my fireplace... Can anyone give me some advise? Is there saving this catastrophic relationship I don’t know. I just want both cats to get along before anything else happens I give them both as much attention as possible and try my best to treat them equally it’s just a really nasty case of them not getting along
