Hi all,
As my title says, I became the proud owner of two new kittens a week ago today after my previous cat, Clover, regretfully passed away due to mammarian cancer last Tuesday. Here's a picture for those who'd like to see them:

Anyway. I will say that the girl, Iris, has integrated well from Day 1. She is spunky, lively, very social, and follows me around quite often. She has taken to her new environment very well. The boy, Zephyr, has unfortunately had some difficulties. While he isn't being aggressive and I'm not seeing any indications of hostility, like laid back ears, hissing, or what have you... he is incredibly skittish. He alternates between being okay and some moments and letting me pet him. Most of the time, however, he runs away as soon as I come remotely close. Oddly enough, he seems to be intent on sharing the same room as me but doesn't want to actually be near me himself and runs when I get too close. This is kind of an improvement as he wanted to avoid me altogether when I first brought him home. I've noticed that at night, these fearful behaviors seem to amplify. My concern, however, is that he doesn't get the chance to socialize and feel loved because he is too fearful. I want to ensure that he thrives in his new environment and isn't consistently fearful. As far as I know, he was socialized with his foster as a stray kitten and doesn't have a history of abuse or unfamiliarity with male humans or other humans. The foster believes that it will improve with time and while I am seeing improvement, I just want to ensure that he isn't miserable. Some have also told me that it may just be kitten skittishness and that he may grow to become more confident in the next few months. Any clarification would be appreciated. Thanks.
