I really want to have a pet, but I'm not sure about my long term or even short term ability to have one. I considered buying an old pet to keep it company in its final years, but I'm not sure I could handle the medical expenses or emotional stress of having it get ill and dying.
What's a good way to temporarily have a pet? I've heard of fostering but I haven't got a clue where to start with that.
