Hello all,
I could really use some advice. We recently discovered that our dog likely has cancer and that it’s too late to really do anything about it. We had been giving her antibiotics because symptoms seemed as though she had a dog cold. The antibiotics did nothing except clear up crust on her nose.
Her lymph nodes periodically swelled to the size of baseballs. We were informed that her white blood cell count is very low and her heart rate is very high. Her breathing is very rapid all the time as a result.
The past few days her face has become very swollen. I’m going to bring her in to see what we can do once the vet is open. She is slow to get up and move around. If she doesn’t have to eat or go outside she just lays around all day. Eats, drinks, and has vomited once since she started getting ill.
We were told that when getting up becomes very difficult it would be time to bring her in one last time.
My question is when do I bring her in? Is sooner better than later?
She isn’t at her worst at the moment. Should we wait until it gets bad? This is the first time I’ve had a terminally ill pet and I don’t want her to suffer.
I’m not sure if our vet would euthanize before it gets bad but if we could should we consider it? She likely won’t get any better.
