To sum it all up a few weeks ago I started to foster a very skiddish, nervous, shy 10 month old dog, that I honestly don’t think anyone has ever given any love to. If anything I think he was beaten and lived in a cage most of if not all his life. Any way, my husband and I fostered for a week and a half or so then officially adopted him shortly after. In the last two ish weeks he has gotten better, but still has his moments where he takes off or freaks out.
I’m wondering if anyone has any advice on how to calm him down to get him to trust us more. He’s pretty comfortable with me, but cowers at my husband and or runs away. My husband has done absolutely nothing to him. He’s gotten a stern voice with him a few times, but that’s the extent of that. We’ve love him unconditionally, give him all kinds of love and praise, treats galore, gets to sleep on our bed and couch or wherever he would prefer and still he flips out. I know he’s still young and I know three weeks isn’t a long time. Granted in those three weeks he has made great progress, but still any and all advice would be greatly appreciated.
Just a side note, we have no intentions on getting rid of him. I just would really like to hear some advice on people who have been in similar situations with a dog like him. I have good feeling about him being a great dog. It’s just getting passed these trust issues.
