I have a cat (he's turning 3 in two days) that has an automatic feeder. It is timed to release 1/8 cup of kibble at 6AM, 12PM, and 6PM. At 6PM, he'll also get half a can of wet food with his kibble.
Last night, I bought a bag of kibble for him from the vet (he's on a prescription diet because of his bladder issues) and forgot to put it away in the pantry. I woke up this morning and found a whole on the bag and he ate some of it. The problem is, his bowl was still full with his dinner from last night and breakfast from this morning. Just to test my theory out, I put some kibble in a plastic baggy and threw it near him. He was immediately intrigued and is now playing with it and attempting to break into it so he can eat its innards. He is currently parading his "fresh kill" around the house, showing us how great of a predator he is. And we agree.
From his last visit, his vet saw no problems with him. Could he just be bored with a routine and like a new challenge?
