My kitty is still less than a year old. When she was younger she would seek me out constantly and purr every time I was near her. I know she’s older now and its normal for cats to be less affectionate as they grow up, but the last few weeks I’ve noticed that she LOVES my roommate. Sometimes she’ll sit outside my roommates door and wait for her to come home. She doesnt greet me when I come home anymore. My roommate will stick out her hands and my cat will immediately come to her, lie on the ground and purr and purr and purr as my roommate pets her. She doesnt come when I call her anymore and doesn’t even let me pet her anymore. When I try she ducks away and leaves. Its breaking my heart honestly.
Some background. I leave the door to my room open when I go to work because I don’t want to keep her locked in. I assume she got close to my roommate because my roommate is a nurse and works irregular hours (mostly nights) so they probably spend some time together while I’m at work. Since my roommate has recently adopted her own cat, I’ve been keeping the door to my room closed because the two cats don’t get along well. The other cat stays in my roommate’s room. I dont think the issue is that I leave the door closed when I leave for work now because I leave it open when I come home and she stays in my room for the most part.
She’s also constantly meowing when I’m in the room with her and I don’t know what she wants. If I come near her she leaves and seems annoyed that I approached her. I always refill her food bowl and clean her litter when I come home so it isnt because shes hungry.
I don’t understand why she loves my roommate so much more than me. I’m the one who feeds her, gives her treats, and plays with her. She was such a skittish and shy cat when I first got her and then she became so affectionate. Now shes so cold towards me and I don’t know what to do.
