Pet’s Name: Zoey
Biography:
I am a silly, loving pup that lives for a game of fetch, a good hike, or even a lazy day in with my people. I like to live in a house with just me and adults. I can be a hyper fun pup when you are feeling energetic and when you are feeling more lazy I do too! I tend to match the energy of the humans I hang around with. I don't do well with other dogs or cats and I have never met any children. When meeting new people I need to warm up to them – but wait and see - you won't be able to stop yourself from falling in love.
I know a lot of cool tricks and I love learning new ones – I will do anything for some treats! I know the basics of course- Sit, Down, Stay, Come, Quiet, Leave It and Off I also know some fun advanced tricks too! "Touch" - if you put your hand out flat above me and ask me to "touch" then I will hop up and touch my nose or sometimes my tongue to your hand! "Stand" - I can stand on my hind legs when asked to but not for too long "Roll Over" - I am not so graceful with this one but I still get it done! "Fus" - If you say "Fus" (Pronounced foose) I will run a circle around you! "Paw" - I shake "hands" with you when you put your hand out and ask for my paw – I tend to give you my paw a lot even if you didn’t ask for it too! It’s my favorite! "Up" - point to anything - a rock, a bench, a table, a platform - and say "Up" and I will jump on top of it - I LOVE jumping on high platforms! "Wait" - if you put food in front of me and say "wait" I won't touch it until you say "okay" - I can even hold treats on my nose and occasionally even catch them! I can also catch food if you toss it to me! (That is another one of my favorites!) If you have any fun tricks you want to teach me, I am VERY food motivated and I love to learn new things!
My absolute FAVORITE things to do when I'm not home is go swimming, play fetch, go on hikes and go camping. I especially like to play fetch and swim at the same time - so I definitely get excited when you throw my ball into a body of water! (Two for one!) At home I am definitely able to be trusted to be free in the house - but I like to sleep in my kennel/crate at night because it makes me feel safe. On lazy days I like to chew my bone and eat my frozen kong full of treats and yogurt. It really keeps me busy. I am not destructive - I have never been a shoe chewer or anything like that. The only thing my old humans used to get upset about is sometimes if I find paper towels on the coffee table or something I like the shred those when no one is looking - but other than that I stick to my own toys. I have a lot of stuffed squeaky toys that I like to play with - I tend to have them for a long time because I don't really like to rip them up - and I LOVE to play with soda and water bottles they're so much fun! …. Having said all of that the ball is my favorite. I like to chew a tennis ball until it breaks (which doesn’t take long at all!!)
As I mentioned before - I am very food motivated - I love ALL food - fruit, veggies, meat - everything. Though for some reason my tummy gets a little upset when I eat ham. Bacon and pork are okay but ham just doesn't sit well with me. Some important things to know about my past - I have lived with two families. In my first home I was not treated the way I deserved to be treated. I was left outside and in a barbeque pit 24/7 and often times my water was frozen. Being outside at night was scary and cold and I still sometimes get a little scared of the dark. Thankfully, my second family saved me from there when I was 1 and showed me all the love they had. They did notice (at first) that I had some issues with resources - I would eat too fast and used to drink my whole bowl of water because I was not sure when I would get water ever again. Thankfully, over time I learned that I will always have water in my bowl and my second family slowed down my eating by adding water to my dry food. This really helped me. I also like to be asked to sit and wait before I eat my breakfast and dinner - once you say "Okay" I will know I can start eating. It is a nice routine for me! My second family also learned a few quirks about me - I don't like other dogs. My reaction is not immediate so I may cry to see nearby dogs but if they put their lip up at me or don't like me I don't respond well. I find it is better for me to keep my distance. They also learned that I don't like to go to the vet - they even told my last vet to not wear a white coat in the service room because it makes me nervous - and unfortunately, I need to wear a "party hat" at the vet and to get my nails done. I don't like party hats but I know that they are for the best.
I have lived with cats in the past but when they upset me, I have gotten a little too mad a few times and over reacted and I can sometimes hurt my furry roommates - unfortunately that is why I needed to start looking for a new home after my second family. They loved me and were good to me but I am better off and happier in a house where I am the only pet. I am only five years old and have a whole lot of life and love left in me - I just turned five on May 13th, 2019. I am looking for just the right place to settle down at that can meet all of my needs.
