My mother fosters kittens in her free time. She's recently become a part of a new rescue, and I help her in my free time since im an online student.
We have a 3-4 week old kitten (named Birdie) who has had diarrhea since we took her in. She was taken from a girl who was giving them away for free at one week old.
Its been about a week of her having completely liquid diarrhea, with spots of blood. We're thinking that the blood is coming from her anus, since its so inflamed that it looks like an open blister. We've been putting neosporin and vaseline on her butt to try and soothe the pain. She cant lie down at all, and just stays huddled in a ball.
The kittens brother (Smudge) suddenly died yesterday immediately after a round of de-worming. He was completely healthy. Birdie has had problems since day 1.
She's a foster cat, and theyve instructed us to not take her for any vet care. We were told that kittens taken in at this age would just be put down. The rescue we got her from has a strong philosophy in that its not worth it to try and save a super young kitten with problems like this.
She won't eat more than a few licks of KMR at a time, so we've been dropping milk into her mouth and giving her occasional Karo drops to keep her from becoming malnourished. She's still rapidly losing weight. The only thing ive ever seen her want to eat is chicken baby food, and even then she only ate a few bites. We were taught how to give her
Im really confused, because every instinct is telling me that she needs to get to a vet, but we arent supposed to, according to our rescue. She's slowly becoming more and more lethargic, and I cant convince my mom to go against the rescue's instructions and take her to the vet.
Im sorry if I sound stupid. I don't know what to do. My mother has resigned to just letting her die like her brother, and its up to me to take care of her now.
