How bad is to fed a dog cat food?

I have a one year rescue dog, she was found with her brothers and sisters in a trashcan and used to eat trash until she come with us. She didn't gave us problems with the food until now. We buy some premium food, not the most expensive but one that dosen't have artificial flavors or salt. My wife tried to buy the cheap one of the supermarket, one of big brand with flavors and colorants, and she eat it without problem, but the vet said that we are giving her a french fries diet with that brand and she is gonna end with heart problems. We already try other good an even really expensive foods but she refuse to eat them. The vet said that she have nothing, she just doesn't want to eat. We are really worried about that, for now have been almost 48hs without eating anything.

Now, the cat food. We also have a cat. He eats also the premium food without artificial flavor or colorant, and have never gave us problems with food for 4 years now. The thing is that the dog love the cat food (we even use it as treats for when she does something good). And we are thinking that maybe the healthy cat food is better that the crappy dog food.

Thanks for any help. Dont worry we are going to visit the vet again next week to see what she thinks.
