I’m curious to know about your animal babies that had those long happy lives :) Vets always give us general life spans for our animals but sometimes they live longer! Note I don’t want this to be sad, I want it to be remembering your animals in a good way and appreciating how strong they were! So how long did your oldest pet live for? For me personally:
Buddy- He was a German Shepard, lab, Great Dane, and husky mix. So he was a BIG dog. Every vet we went to expected him to only live to about 10 years old. Buddy lived until he was 15 years old. His age didn’t start to show through until very shortly before he passed away. It was a good healthy 15 years of life, he didn’t suffer.
Yoko- She was a Holland lop bunny. Typically people say rabbits live 6-10 years. Amazingly Yoko lived to 16 years old! She passed away very peacefully in her sleep. Once again she didn’t suffer.
Kallie, Springer, & Tinkerbell- all 3 of these cats lived to 20 and 21 years old. They each had to be put down due to old age and falling sick. They were all amazing cats.
Flame- she was a beautiful mare standing at 16hh. Typically full sized horses live into their early - mid 20s. Flame passed away at 40 years old.
Katie- she was also a gorgeous mare however she was just a little pony about 12hh. Katie was born in 1958 and lived to 59 years old! She was put to sleep in 2017. She was born the same year as my mom and they grew up together.
Note: in my family, we do put our pets to sleep if it’s necessary. I know some people are against that and to each their own. However if our animal is terminally sick, in pain, or just their daily life is no longer comfortable, we will make the decision to do what’s best for them.
