Hello Reddit, first time kitten owner here. Suffice to say, my girlfriend went from not really liking cats to bringing home a stray kitten she found at work today. Being as my roommate has a cat (about 4 y/o rescue) we are keeping them separated for now.
My real question is; What should be the next steps to get our mature cat ok with the kitten? The reason I ask is because our mature cat, Boots, was abused before we rescued him so he's always on alert. He's generally good now, let's us pet him a few times before running off. He's even playful with our ferrets but he's definitely a hisser. He swipes at them if they get too playful, but never with claws. Boots is also pretty jumpy, so anything that spooks him sends him bolting upstairs.
Being a first time kitten owner,I don't know how this will play out. Any advice would be helpful! Thanks!
