So we just adopted a daschund terrier mix from the shelter. She was a stray previously so the shelter didn’t have any kind of behavioral information. Plus the shelter has one room with all the dogs. She was terrified in with the amount of large loud barking dogs.
She’s so sweet. This is only day two though. She’s opened up a lot more since then. But if we take her into our backyard, she runs around the house to the front gate and slowly attempts to escape. Which scares me and wonders if she’s just not happy? Will she grow out of this?
She also refuses to go potty outside. I’ve taken her on several walks today to get her to go outside. But it’s like she just waits till we get in the house then goes.
I have to go back to work tomorrow and I don’t want to stick her in the crate all day, but I can’t have her peeing and pooping all over the house will I’m gone. My partner won’t be home till tomorrow afternoon.
I’m getting a little anxious and wondering if I’m in over my head. Wondering if My partner and I were ready? Or should we have waited till we had a good week or two to spend with her.
My partner and I thought we thought this through. He LOVES this sweet girl. And we said we don’t want giving her back to ever be an option (this was before we met her).
I’m just at a loss right now. Mind you I’m exhausted because I read a book to take a puppy out every few hours to make sure you’re proactive about accidents. So I’m running on little sleep.
