My cat got outside and when I got her back in my other cat tried to kill her

Soft Kitty was a stray that we rescued about 6 years ago, she was spayed and healthy. I had two other cats that hated her but one passed away a year ago. We still have Simon. Simon and soft kitty have never actually gotten along but they've tolerated each other for the past 6 years. Until today. We're redoing our kitchen and my mom left the back door open and Soft Kitty got outside. I got her back in at about midnight and then Simon decided that she offended his ancestors and went after her trying to kill her. She recently had a dental procedure done and the vets clipped her claws so she can't really defend herself with little nubs on her paws and 4 teeth. He never attacked her since the procedure until today. I broke them up and put Simon into a room and I put Soft kitty into my room so I could check her over for wounds and ticks and stuff from being outside. Fast forward about 3 hours later she wanted to get out and I had already let Simon out by then. So I figured Simon's just a dick and she'd be fine so I let her out of my room. Not even 10 minutes after I let her out I hear this awful screeching that wasn't Simon and I bolt out of my room to watch Simon beating the absolute shit out of soft and essentially pushing her down our flight of stairs. He's currently back in the room and soft kitty is back in my room. She peed all up our main stairs when Simon was chasing her cause she wanted to get out so the poor thing could pee in the first place. What would cause this sudden aggression and how do I stop it cause I don't feel comfortable beating the crap out of my cat which is what my dad would do even though the dick deserves it and I don't want to give him away if the behavior continues. Also how do I stop it?
