My cat has stopped eating and my vet is talking about putting a time limit on treatment

My cat stopped eating at least a week ago. She has become very skinny and lethargic and is very clearly not herself, she has lost a lot of her spark although she is still a sweet little angel.

I brought her to the vet and her blood work is fine and she has no obstructions in her body. She ate a little by herself with the help of appetite stimulants but once they wear off she stops again. I fed her by syringe for the last few days and brought her back to the vet yesterday.

The vet has taken her in for a couple of days for aggressive treatment but she thinks that for Joel's quality of life we need to put a time limit on how long we will syringe feed her, It's also not practical as I have to work so I can't feed her as often as she needs it. I suggested a feeding tube and the vet is open to it but also thinks it's only worth trying for a week and doesn't seem to think it would be in Joel's best interest as she has already had surgery last week to look for internal problems. Joel will absolutely hate a feeding tube, I know what she's like, but I also am devastated at the thought of letting her go.

Can anyone advise me here? Do you have experiences of feeding tubes working or not working? I'm really at a loss as to what to do. Thanks for your help.
