I’ve posted a bit about this before but as I’m grasping more of the new cats personality I’m getting uneasy but hoping this all tides over.
I adopted a new cat about two weeks ago. I have a spare room and the feliway oil scent. He’s been ok with this and has been eating and going to the bathroom in the litter box. He also comes out of his little cat bunker (my crawl space that I cleaned for him) when I call and we have a petting session. We’ve even started some play sessions and I’ve play with him until he didn’t seem interested. The whole house is now open to him to roam since he seemed interested.
Everything seems ok and then I’ll go to turn and walk by or away from him and he’ll attack. These aren’t friendly (hey don’t leave me) swipes, my old cat used to do that. It’s aggressive attacking with hard biting and scratching involved. He messed up the back of my knee bad. I didn’t bump him or anything. At first I thought he felt cornered but now I don’t think it is. This would be fine if I could skirt by him but he likes to herd me and I can’t tell if it’s for pets or he wants a go at me. He’ll meow what seems to be in an aggressive way (the kind of meow before growling or hissing starts) and his tail is wagging. But then will run up to me for a petting session.
He’s also been doing this thing of walking around the house and yowling. I think he’s bored and then he’ll play only a little with me and then when I go back to what I was doing he’ll start up again.
He’s also got aggressive when I tried to scold him for being on the counter ( I didn’t yell but I did have a tone) and had his mouth open and growled a bit.
I really don’t know what to do. I don’t think I can handle being scared that this cat is gonna attack me randomly. I like him and he’s cute but I’m not sure if we’re a good fit, but I also feel bad for giving up. I just feel like I’m getting mixed signals
