Not sure if adult cat is playing too rough with new kitten.

I have a 2 year old male cat (neutered). I've had him since April as an only cat and two weeks ago I got a new kitten who is 10 weeks. For the first week my adult cat did a lot of hissing and usual territorial things. They have their own areas, litter boxes, and food bowls.

Now my adult cat has warmed up to the kitten with no more hissing. My concern is if my adult cat is playing too rough. Many times my adult cat will pull the kitten into an almost tight hug while on his side and bite the kitten's ears and back. They are always supervised and separated into separate rooms when I need to leave the house. The kitten has only cried once during this type of play and they were separated once I heard that. Otherwise the kitten doesn't seem to mind.

My adult cat isn't showing signs of aggression like hissing, growling, ears back etc. The kitten will frequently chase after the adult cat and sometimes vice versa. My only real concern is the biting and chokehold my adult cat will sometimes do.

Is this typical playing or harmful?
