The dog is friendly most of the time but would bark and growl when I come home when it's dark out?

I moved to a new house and they have a dog. It used to jump up on me first couple of days now it stopped. During the day it does nothing but when I leave the house and come back when it's dark it starts barking and growling at me. Why?
