I was looking for some drift wood for a bearded dragon enclosure, trying to support some local businesses. I enter into this crappy area because a business is advertised as a reptile specialist pet store, the first thing I smell was weed. So much weed.
The place was really messy and the owner was super standoffish, going so far as to say when I was trying to get a better look at a jungle morph ball python "If you don't buy something, I'll have to pay you for a zoo visit."
Ya, some zoo. He had a Blue Tongue that had at least two layers of stuck shed on his back, moving on wood chips ment for hamsters, and hadn't been cleaned in a while. Poor thing was so fat.
Another animal that I was looking at was a constrictor for around 5-600 dollars. The poor little guy was so skinny he looked like a triangular tube of scales, he had stuck shed on his head, neak, and tail area, he also had no heat box, just a hide it was too small for a snake of his size and a water dish.
The worst part by far for me was that the guy who owned the place was a massive dick when it came to animal questions. I have a friend who is feeding live to his 5 or 6 month old Kenyan sand boa and is doing a few things that make me worry for the snakes health and safety. I had asked the guy if my friend should be feeding live and all he said was "Damn sand boas don't eat after the first six months after there all cought from the wild. But ain't my snake, ain't my problem."
I just felt horrible for all the snakes, arachnids, and other animals that were there. I felt I just had to get this off my chest, sorry for no pictures.
