Our cat of several years has begun to whine at the door super early in the morning and waking us up. She's not an outside cat and has never done this before. What could be causing it and how can we stop her from doing this?
We've had our cat Emmy for several years now, adopted her from our former boss at work. She can be demanding and whiny but mostly is well behaved and understands basic rules (no waking me up or going in my room before noon, if you want windows open you jump up there and silently wait and we'll open them, don't demand it, etc). So far as we know she's fixed and has had all her shots and stuff. We feed her well (too well, I spoil her constantly with cheese or whatever else I'm eating), and she has toys though she never plays with them.
Last night she woke me and my fiancee up by loudly whining, possibly crying, at the front door, and then every time my fiancee would get up to calm her down she'd lead her to the window, then back to the door, and as soon as my fiancee would lay down she'd start crying again.
As long as we've had her she's never been an outside cat, never demanded to go out, and has only cried at the door when I was outside. Yesterday she calmed down when I woke up and she saw me then went straight to bed, but just a bit ago she was doing it again even though I was clearly in the room with her. I got her calmed down finally but worried she'll wake us up again.
Possibly related: this all seems to have started after she lost her collar 3 nights ago. I'm going to try putting and old one back on her and see if that chills her out.
Any help would be greatly appreciated. My partner and I work night shift and our cat waking us up like this is severely disrupting our sleep schedules.
