So this is a bit of a crazy situation, I'm not sure if this type of post is allowed here but I'm not sure where else to ask. I live in Canada and a few days ago there was a baby hare/Leverett under one of our car tires. We didn't want to disturb the baby so we just observed it from our house. There had been construction in the neighbourhood and a lot of cat activity lately, we soon found out it's mother had been killed. I understand nature can take its course but I'm not leaving this poor baby hare to die under a car tire, waiting for it's mom that will never return.
After picking up the small bunny (who didn't scream or put up any fight, even cuddled into me) we (my boyfriend and I) decided to try to take care of this baby. Our local animal shelters will not take the little one in and I don't want him to just die. He is uninjured and has no signs of disease/parasites. My mother had a rabbit before so she has some basic knowledge for how to take care of this one, but we really need some help. I know a lot of people will look down on us for taking him in, but I simply can't watch him starve to death under a tire.
The hare has drank water from a syringe and has eaten grass/carrot leaves from my hand. He is extremely affectionate and wants to just lay/cuddle us? I know this may sound crazy but any help would be appreciated. We are about to weigh him to see if he is still at the age where he needs milk (we are assuming he's at about 3 weeks), once we find out his age we will provide what he needs.
