For a year n a half my dog has been the only pet in the house, until the other day when I brought home a kitty. My dog is fine, he's ready to be friends but the Kitty's s jerk and then my dog is jerk. But its the kitty that won't come around.
They've been taking turns in their kennels, when my dog is in his kennel, the cat has no interest in checking him out. When the cat is in his kennel and my dog goes to check him out, he gets mad and growls and hisses and swats at my dog through the holes in the kennel.
When they're both out it doesn't last long because kitty tries to attack my dog (not playfully) and then my dog starts freaking out. My dog is pretty big so if it got bad it could get really bad. But my dog is fine until kitty starts it.
Now they're both in their kennels, facing and within sniffing distance of each other. It's only been a couple days but I don't know if there's anything I need to be doing or not doing or if I just need to give it more time?
