My housemate adopted a 2 year old cat about four months ago.
And he does not stop meowing ever unless he is asleep or you are swaddling him in your arms. I of course can swaddle him, but i also have to go about my day. I’ve even considered getting a sling to hold him with lol. He also loves to go outside and so that has been an outlet for him, but we live in the midwest and it is too cold for him to be outside safely right now.
I did not grow up with pets so I don’t really have good animal intuition, and I also didn’t agree to share the responsibility of caring for this cat. But it is obvious that he needs a lot of stimulation and attention. My housemate is very busy and so this cat is left alone for much of the day (besides me being there in the house doing some work from home). He is a very smart cat and needs to be constantly interacted with and needs a lot of physical affection (remember the swaddling) but also will not sit with you on the couch or in your bed. He has a little ball-in-track toy but he also gets bored of that after 5 minutes. I feel like he needs other things to do. But right now he meows these long drawn out curdling meows and I feel so terrible about him being so bored, but when my housemate got him we very much agreed that he would be their responsibility.
I have mentioned to my housemate a few times that he needs more toys and interaction, but my housemate hasn’t really responded. I could talk to them again more firmly about it of course, but I am wondering if anyone has suggestions for helping an extremely bored cat that I can also relay to my housemate. I truly don’t know anything about cats.
Is this cat just profoundly bored? Are there certain toys that would help? Is it just that he needs a lot more attention and play time?
