Gerbil Draws blood few weeks after getting a large upgraded cage

Hi i used to have a smallish cage for 2 gerbils they were fine in it no problem but for christmas i got a large aquarium which i put them in i might of put to much saw dust in i started it by having there wooden house in 1 corner and food and water in the same side and on the other side i put a large pile of bedding for them to dig in but they spread out the saw dust to the other side of the cage i didnt think this was a problem because they started to make cool tunnels under it but i think 1 of the 2 is living underground and the other one is living in the same house this morning i heard squeaking so i checked and they were fighting i noticed yesterday a few unusual noises like quick banging like they were moving something but they might of been fighting then aswel i put my hand in and 1 of them bit my finger and he wouldnt let go until i had to shake lightly 1 of the gerbils the one who bit me had to be relocated into there orginal cage but i dont want them to be lonely if i clean the cage out and leave just like 3 inches of bedding could this fix? also the gerbil who got relocated was bleeding under her stomach and she was kind of sluggish afterwards after the fight before i seperated them they went upto eachover and smelt eachover. and if they do get along with eachover after wards is there a way to get them to not do this again because i realise now i made it really deep of bedding and its spread to the other side sorry if this dosnt make sense this has got me a bit stressed
