I have had two people say I may need to put my dog down. Am I missing something?

My dog has been diagnosed with having Hip dysplasia in both hips. I have made an appointment with a surgeon to discuss if surgery is necessary. We talk on the phone briefly and she said there are many physical therapy options depending on the severity, and she won't know until she gets the x-rays.

My dog is on strict rest until we work out a plan with the doctor. I have been carrying her up and down stairs and placed my bed on the floor. We have restricted walks that only last a few minutes at a time before she begin limping.

I have explained the situation to several people and a few of them said it might be better to put her down. She is only 3 years old, and as sad it might seem, she is my life. I refuse to accept that this is a common mindset with people. One of the people question said "well when you have to decide between paying for a $6 ,000 surgery or getting a new dog for a couple hundred, I mean it's a hard decision to make, but a no-brainer"

I will do everything in my power to keep her happy and healthy. I don't plan on putting her down at all, unless it is the only and I mean the ONLY OPTION LEFT after I had exhausted all other options to rid her of this condition.

Am I missing something? I feel like these people look at animal as toys, not living things
