Improving life for dog crated 2 months after surgery?

Hi, r/Pets! Our 9-year-old Boston Terrier/Border Collie mix is going in for orthopedic knee surgery this morning and will need to be crated for 2 months pretty much around the clock while she recovers. We have been through this before about a year ago, but it was a miserable experience for all consisting of sedatives and lots of Kongs and peanut butter. What non-drug/food things would you suggest to make this even a marginally better experience for all of us the next 2 months of our lives?
