kitten acting weird and my mom refuses to take him to the vet

hey, so i got a kitten a while ago. we found him in our garage, really cold, skinny, and no signs of any other cats who could be his family. i immediately wanted to take him to the vet, just to make sure he's okay, and my mom refused. i wasn't that upset about it (he did seem fine, he knew how to use the litter box, ate regularly, cuddled up with me when i went to sleep).

however, he's suddenly gotten really tired. he's always been hyper, running around and playing with anything that sticks out to him. we couldn't find him for about an hour, and when i eventually found him walking around, i picked him up and brought him to my mom, and he immediately curled up and went to sleep in my lap. i picked him up, because i didn't want to stay there with him in my lap, and i brought him back to my room, where he went to sleep on my bed.

this didn't sit well with me - obviously, he's a cat, and he was playing for a long time, but he's always so hyper. i put him on my lap earlier, and i put my hoodie strings over him because even when he's tired, he likes to swat at them. he ignored me and went back to sleep on my lap.

he's eating fine, he's just acting different now. i told my mom all of this, and she still refuses to take him to the vet. am i being worried for nothing or should i take to asking my dad to bringing him to the vet (he's always tired and/or drunk but when i'm at school he's at home, and he's brought another of our cats to the vet when i was at school before)?
