Making my cat understand he's not the boss

Hey guys,

So I know this is nearly impossible but there is something my cat needs to understand if cohabitation with my parents is to go well: at night he can't scratch at my door.

Seriously I'm currently in a "fight" with him, back against my door so I can tell him "no" and push him away when he tries to claw at it (little devil knows how to use door handles...). It's been going on since 5 AM. Thanks God he's a lovely cat because he's massive, has claws like swords and getting into a fight with him would result in me having to go to the hospital. He's been yowling at me when I push him and gosh that's terrifying, thankfully he's not aggressive at all.

Anyway. Are there small ways I can teach him "we're friends and I love you but when I insist you can't do something you have to listen?"
