My girlfriend and I adopted a 10-day old cat who was otherwise going to be euthanized. We believe he’s a Turkish Van. He’ll be 1 year old in April.
She and I took turns bottle feeding him, and caring for him until he was old enough to be a more independent. For his first 6 months, my girlfriend took him to work daily (she’s a vet tech), so the cat bonded with her and probably thinks she’s his mom. At the time, the cat lived at her place too, but we’ve since moved in together.
The cat and I have bonded quite well. He is my cat after all (even my girlfriend says he’s mine). He’s the sweetest kitten ever. He snuggles me every chance he gets, it seems. When I get home from work, he’s sprinting down the stairs to greet me; when I take the dogs for a walk, he follows us to the door, sits on the doormat and waits until we get back; if I’m sitting on the couch, he’s on my lap, climbing my chest to rub his forehead against mine; it gets hard to browse reddit because he pushes my phone away (like he’s doing right now). If I’m working from home, he practically sits on my keyboard.
I love giving him the attention he wants because he’s my sweet little boy, but I find it funny that when it’s bed time, he exclusively cuddles with my girlfriend. He climbs on top of her and lays down; after she kicks him off a few times, he’ll snuggle up against her or occasionally sleep between us.
When we’re all awake, he splits his time between me, my girlfriend and harassing the dogs. When I’m home alone or the only one awake, he wants my attention. When I go to bed, he follows me into the bedroom only to jump on my girlfriend. Even when she’s out of town, the cat still won’t snuggle me or even sleep on the bed.
Any thoughts as to why this might be?
