Hello! So this afternoon my neighbor's dog picked up 3 baby rabbits from their nest. Fortunately, they were unharmed. We called as many vets and rehab places as possible and all of them said that we wouldn't be able to put them back as the dog had already left its scent on them. They are about 3-4 weeks old, eyes open. So, naturally, I took them. My plan is to nurture them until they are old enough to be let into the wild when I will call a rehab center for instructions on how to do so or give them to them. But for now, I think it would be a fun summer project (and they are really cute). I have never taken care of rabbits before, let alone wild baby rabbits, and I did a little bit of research on what to feed them and habitats and this is what I have:
- paper towel bedding
- free feed alfalfa hay and young rabbit food every day in separate bowls, mix kitten meal replacement with the rabbit food for the first week and then just give them their dry food
- can eat carrots but no lettuce or cabbage
What else do I need to do for them? How often do I change the paper towels? Do they need a litter box? How often do I completely clean the cage? How much food do I give them each? How do I get them to drink from the water nozzle? (I have a bowl of water set out for now). When do I have to separate them to protect them from attacking each other? Any other tips and suggestions? Please help!
Also, I have been leaving them alone in their cage for the past hour so they don't get too stressed out as they have had a long day. They seem to be just sitting in the same spot staring blankly. Is this normal?
Thank you!!
