To start, I've had my cat since I was 5 and I'm now 22 years old so she's about 17. I don't remember life without her honestly. A little over a year ago she started having problems peeing. We took her to the vet a few times and she was eventually diagnosed with lymphoma over the summer. Since then, she's gone from 2 medications to 4 and doesn't like any of them. One is a steroid that I have to force her to take daily, two are supplements that we put in her food in the morning, and one is a chemotherapy drug. It isn't meant to get rid of the lymphoma, only slow it down. These past few days she's become very lethargic. She doesn't want to walk around anywhere and really only sleeps. She has been drinking a lot but isn't really eating unless we give her bits of leftover chicken breast but even then, she only takes a few bites. Her joints seem to have started bothering her lately as well since she doesn't stretch them often and walks like she's crouched down a bit. Her joints also crack sometimes. Today, when I came downstairs I realized she had peed on the floor, something she has never done in her entire life. I have this gut feeling that I'm only prolonging this to avoid the heartbreak putting her down will cause me and my family isn't really giving me advice. They have only said that "I'll just know" when it's time. This feels impossible for me to know though since I've had her for as long as I can remember and have never had to put a pet down before. I'm really asking for advice here. What would you do if you were in my position? If you have euthanized a pet before, how did you cope? If you have any questions about her, please ask, I'll clarify anything about the situation. Thank you so much in advance.
