I have a 6 year old Keeshond who's been living with me for almost two years now. He relocated to me from a separated couple after moving back and forth between them before he came to live with me. When I got him we used some time to get him house warm, but he quickly found his place in the household.
Last November I moved from my rented house to an apartment complex. The transition seemed to go well and he never showed any signs of uncomfort with the whole moving process. In July I started a new job. At the job I had before I usually brought him with me to work. I don't usually bring him with me to work here as I now have an office job with several other dogs in the office. He doesn't go well with all of them so I usually keep him at home.
Lately, the past couple of weeks, he has been quite uneasy. Always seeking to the door, whines a lot, once peed inside (never done this before) and barks constantly when home alone. I have gotten several messages from neighbours and I can hear him barking from outside the apartment complex. He eats as normal and his general condition is as it always has been, except for the uneasyness as mentioned.
I called the vet and told her about the situation. She said the cause might be bitches in the area being in heat (unsure if this is the right term. English is not my first language, but I hope you get my point). This somewhat seems logical, he´s not castrated, but on the other hand, he haven't acted like this before neither with me nor the previous owners.
I just went home to bring him with me to work for the day, and I probably have to do this tomorrow and the following days as well. This is not a permanent solution as it creates disturbance in the office, and I can't do my job properly with him being here. He's also whiny and uneasy while being here.
I feel at loss. I have considered castrating him if this might be a solution. I just think it's difficult knowing, considering he hasn't acted like this before.
Do you guys and gals have any knowledge or advice?
