We live in an apartment beneath our landlord’s house in a very woodsy area. We were coming home today and saw some cats scurrying into a shed that sits across from our entryway. Upon further investigation, it turns out that there appears to be 2 adult cats who have made some sort of nest underneath the shed and there are at least 4 kittens living down there. The interesting part is, the adult cats do not appear to be feral, but they look unkempt and both of them look as though there is something medically wrong with them. I know the obvious thing to do is to contact our local animal services which we will do tomorrow, but I was wondering if anyone could provide some sort of explanation as to what might be going on. The kittens seem to be healthy, we bought some cat food (which a quick google search has led me to believe was the wrong thing to do) and a few of the kittens approached the food and basically devoured it. We left some water out too but it looks mostly untouched. The adult cat that looks like the mom pants quite heavily when she is laying down, and doesn’t appear to be too disturbed by our attempts to make contact with her kittens. If anyone has any tips or tricks or answers as to what might be going on, it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
