Guilt over separating my cats?

My roommate and I have 2 cats. She got hers when we moved in a year and a half ago, and I’ve had mine for 5 years but he only started to live with us a year ago (was with my mom until she kicked him out). They are so in love. Like I’ve never seen either of them so happy. They’re always cuddling and kissing eachother (grooming obviously, but they groom each others faces at the same time a lot and it makes them look like they’re kissing). You can never find one without the other. Anyways, we had a recent falling out so we are going our separate ways. And we can’t keep the cats together because our separate living arrangements don’t allow it. I’m just so heartbroken about separating the cats. They haven’t even been together for a year but if I take my cat on a walk the other cat yowls until my kitty returns and I feel so horribly guilty about separating them. What do I do? Am I destroying their lives? Will they get over it super quick or is this something the cats will hold on to and just constantly miss eachother? I really don’t know (also I’m super emotional right now because of this.)
