We currently have a 2-year-old female cat (Ruka) who is well-socialized with dogs and ended up adopting a 6-year-old female cat (Azula). We separated them during the first week, kept Azula in the bathroom, and fed them both by the bathroom door as a barrier. They don't really respond to each other's scents and would hiss slightly when they saw each other through the bathroom door. Yesterday, we finally had them in the same room together, and while Ruka would hiss, she was also pretty curious and didn't seem that vexed by Azula's presence. On the other hand, Azula was absolutely livid and started hissing, spitting, growling, and chasing Ruka. We separated them again and tried another introduction today, but the same thing happened, and now Azula won't get out from under the couch.
How do you successfully introduce two grown cats? I do realize it takes time, we've had multiple cats before in the past, but they were kittens rather than adults. I've tried using Jackson Galaxy's method as well as using a Sentry calming collar on Azula. We also have a Feliway multicat diffuser coming in tomorrow to help with the situation.
