Introducing a new kitten into small apartment

In a few weeks time we will be adopting an 8 week old kitten from a friend whose cat had a litter. Both myself and husband are experienced with having cats, but have previously adopted from shelters when the cats were around 6 months old. The kitten will be well socialized and currently has free reign on the downstairs of their home.

I know that it is important to keep the kitten in one room for a period of time, but I am not sure how doable this will be in our 700sqft apartment. It is one bedroom, but the bedroom does not have a proper door to keep a cat in. Our only other option is the bathroom, which is spacious enough but I have concerns about whether or not it makes sense to keep him there.

I am looking for advice about how long to keep the kitten separated.. we will be keeping him in probably the bathroom while we are at work for the first little while for sure, but when is a reasonable time to start letting him out during the evenings? We also have a 5 year old rabbit who has her cage in the living room. She is good with cats and has been around them before, but I am not sure how long to wait before introducing them.

Any advice or first had experiences would be appreciated!
