Is it cruel to lock my cat everyday for 1-2 hours to the bathroom with all of his stuff (bed, litter box, toys etc) ?

We have adopted a cat 7 months ago. He is around 2 years old and before the adoption he was living in the streets. He has digestion issues and that is why I cannot give him dry food (he directly gets diarrhea). So we always give him wet food 2 times a day and make sure that he does not gain weight (though he gained 300g since he moved in with us.)

Our problem is that when he is hungry, he yells like crazy (you can even see the video I posted before on my profile) and when we ignore him yelling, he comes to bed, bites and scratches my head and my hair at 4:00 am. We usually feed him at 06.00 am before leaving for work.

Unfortunately, I lock him to the bathroom where his litter box is, with his bed and toys. Sometimes he sleeps for 2 hours, sometimes he continues to yell without taking a break. We tried to only lock our bedroom door but he broke our locks by jumping and scratching.

So my question is: Is it cruel to lock him everyday for 1-2 hours to the bathroom? I have no idea what else to do… he has the same attitude at the evenings before dinner and of course we do not lock him, try to ignore him. I am open to any suggestions, I am really desperate…cat
