Looking for some more cat advice

Want to say thank you to everyone the last few months that have given me lots of random adivce I have been asking on here about cats. I have grown up with them, but now that I have to take care of them myself and not my parents there are a lot of things I have been wondering about. So now I have some more questions, and figured I would just to this one topic while they are on my mind ha.

-My cats are almost 1 year old (July they were born) and just last week I switched them from kitten chow to cat chow ( no colors) and fill their bowls up morning and evening and sometimes night. I also to a fork full of wet food morning and evening for each of them. My orange tabby has gotten fairly chunky compared to his brother who is a tuxedo color. So now I am worried I am feeding them too much. So now I am not filling their bowl up at night when I go to bed, although when I wake up in the morning it is usually bone dry. I will say that the orange tabby ate almost half a stick of butter when I first brought them home back in december cause I forgot to put the cover on it.

-Thinking about getting a cat playpen tent thing I have seen online. I want to give them more stimulation since I am at work a lot and thought I could take them outside and put them in the tent so they could have some outside fun. I started raising the blinds to the big windows in my living room and now they seem to like just sitting on the arm of the couch and staring out the window.

-Are there any toys that seem to be popular that people get? I feel like I have bought a lot of toys, but really the only ones they play with are these colored springs and sometimes these little stuffed mice. but they bat the springs under the couch all the time so if I am at work I can't get them out from under it for them.
