Need help finding lost cat

Our cat's never been one to stay out late. We live in England, so the only things threatening him are traffic and possibly foxes. We gave him the benefit of the doubt yesterday and even though we were worried, we assumed he'd turn up today, and that worrying wouldn't help. He hasn't, and now we're gonna do everything to find him. Any and all advice is welcome. He's our first pet, and personally my favourite. I miss him. The way he can't meow properly, or the way he jumps to meet a hand to pet him. And obviously the way his tongue scours my eyelids in the morning.

I'm gonna ask all potential neighbours to check their sheds. I'm gonna check under all the cars. Distance, I'm not sure of, as he usually disappears into the woods to play out.

We've left his litterbox and some food in our garden for him. We'll have to get posters printed, and we've already shared a facebook post. We're gonna go look along all the roadsides we assume he could've got to, just in case.

It was raining, so we're guessing he's hiding somewhere and got trapped, as it rained heavily on the night of the disappearance, though the weather's dry today, and he'd always be sat on the chair in the garden, waiting to come in. I'm heading out now to look, but will be checking my phone, so while I can't respond just know any advice is really appreciated. Thank you.
