Question About Rehoming Fees

Hi all.

I'm looking at adopting a dog for the first time. I'm having trouble finding a breed/age in my area that would be comfortable in a house with a couple cats. I found a dog on craigslist (already sketchy) that I am interested in, a chocolate lab who is a year old. They say they are rehoming him because they've recently had children who are disabled.

The ad claims that he is up to date on his shots, is fixed, and they have invested 1k in training him. Given the amount they spent, I would assume this goes beyond simple house training, but they don't specify his training beyond being trained to ring bells that hang on the door to let you know he needs to go out.

They have asked several questions about my housing situation, and may be interested in bringing him to my house to see how he likes it. They seem to be earnestly interested in ensuring he has a good home, and with his medical care and training, I'm leaning toward finding their rehoming fee reasonable. That being said, this would be my first dog, so that's why I'm here. They are asking $400 rehoming fee.

What are your thoughts? And are there any questions I should ask? I'm hoping I could get some verification from them as well about his training and medical care ahead of time.

Thank you!
